X-ray fluorescence (XRF) is a non-destructive analytical method used to determine elemental concentrations in various materials. XRF works by striking a sample with an x-ray beam from an x-ray tube, causing characteristic x-rays to fluoresce from each element in the sample. SciAps uses the EDXRF Spectrometer technique because of its mechanical simplicity and excellent adaptation to portable field use.

X-300 - Premium XRF in terms of speed, precision, limit of detection and elemental range.
X-Ray Tube: 50 kV, Rh anode or Au anode (application dependent)
Alloys: Measures key alloying light elements Mg (> 0.7% in Al base), Al, Si, S and P in 2-3 second beam 2 tests – 5-seconds total test time! Measures 0.4% Mg in 6063, 356, 3004 in 5 sec. beam 2, 7 seconds total test.
Geochem, Soils: Best performance on Rare-earths, RCRA and Priority Pollutant metals due to premium detector and high rates.
 
X-200 - Offers comparable speed/precision as top of the line competing brands, at a lower price point, in a smaller, lighter package.
X-Ray Tube: 40 kV, Rh anode (alloy) or 50 kV Au anode (Geochem, Soil, others).
Alloys: Best value where aluminum sorting is daily but not the major focus. Requires a 2nd beam test of 8-10s for Mg at 0.8% in Al base. Requires 5-6 second beam 2 test time for Al, Si, S and P. Requires 15-20 s to measure 0.3-0.5% Mg in grades such 6063 or 356 or 3004.
Geochem, Soils: Offers comparable precision, limits of detection and elemental range of other leading XRF brands, but in a lighter weight package, and at a lower price point.
 
X-100 - Identical to X-200 for elements titanium and higher.
X-Ray Tube: 40 kV, Rh anode (alloy) or 40 kV Au anode (Geochem, Soil, others).
Alloys: Test SS, high temps, red metals with speed, precision comparable to top end competing brands, but NOT analyze elements Mg, Si, Al, P and S.
Geochem, Soils: Offers high speed and precision and excellent limits of detection on transition metals (base metals) and heavy metals, SDD technology. Does not analyze Mg, Al, Si.
 

The “old school” PiN diode technology. A great value for analyzing basic alloys including stainless, high temps, copper alloys.

X-50 - is the most economical model. Great basic analysis of transition and heavy metals.

X-Ray Tube: 40 kV, Rh anode (alloy) or Au anode (Geochem, Soil, others)

Alloys: Basic sorting of SS, high temps and red metals. Only sort Al alloys by MLC’s and 2000’s and 7000’s.

Geochem, Soils: Offers high speed and precision and excellent limits of detection on transition metals (base metals) and heavy metals, with older PiN diode detector technology. Does not analyze Mg, Al, Si. Test times will be much longer to achieve same precision as X-100, but X-50 platform lower priced.
